Answer the following questions as your character. If your character would refuse to answer, have them respond how they would naturally, but include internal dialogue in either prose or brackets (your choice) with their thoughts on it.
Q1: You've been stranded on a desert island with only one standard-size travel suitcase. If you could only have 3 items in that suitcase, what would you want those items to be and why?
I wouldn’t need anything. As so many have been quick to point out, I am a beast first and foremost. And as a beast, I wouldn’t need any sort of travel suitcase, or any items you humans might need to survive. I suppose if I were to need any sort of item, it would be a haircomb, which I use to fight with, but I always keep one in my mane regardless. And even if I didn’t have one, the only thing I would need to hunt is my fangs, claws, and nose. I’ve learned to survive in the wilderness for much of my life, so a desert island would be little more than a simple challenge.
...Although, if it’s a desert island, it would be pretty warm. And I’m not a fan of hot weather; it dries out my nose and makes me woozy. So I guess maybe some water might be good to have. And I suppose having some way to get off the island would be a good idea...
Q2: Tell us about a defining event in your life that you think influenced who you are today.
As embarrassing as it may be, I believe the one moment that defines my life is when I was captured by Shinra. When I was taken to Midgar, I was experimented on by a mad scientist named Dr. Hojo. It was unpleasant, to say the least. But by being captured, I was able to meet Aerith, and through her Cloud, Tifa, Barrett… and well, everyone else who would become my friends. And by meeting them, my life changed so much. I was able to see parts of the world I never even knew existed, meet so many new people, help save the Planet… I even flew in an airship! A lot of that traveling was hard, and we lost a lot along the way… but I don’t regret being captured or resent being experimented on. Well, not as much as I did when it happened, at least. Because if I hadn’t been captured, I wouldn’t have met my friends, or done all these amazing things. So as awful as it was to be captured, I have to admit that it changed my life.
Q3: What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
For a long time, I considered my mother and grandfather to be my only family. My mother died when I was young, so all I truly had growing up was Grandfather. I had a father as well, though for much of my life I didn’t consider him worthy of being related to me. I had thought he was a coward, one who turned tail and fled when invaders threatened the Canyon. But I was wrong. He wasn’t a coward at all! He had actually faced the Gi Tribe and protected the entire Canyon all by himself! But Grandfather only told me recently, when he said I was ready to learn. I don’t fully understand why he made me wait so long, but Grandfather sometimes had strange ways of teaching me lessons. But I am glad he told me about my father. I’m proud to be considered the son of the great warrior, Seto.
Hmm… I suppose I didn’t really answer the question of what family means to me, does it? Well, family… it usually means people who you’re related to, but for me I think it means something more. Grandfather wasn’t my biological grandfather; he was the elder of Cosmo Canyon. But he raised me when my mother died, and taught me about my people and the Planet as I grew. He was the closest thing I had to a true parent growing up, and owe much of what I have learned to him and his teachings. He really was like a real grandfather to me… So, I suppose what I’m trying to say is that family doesn’t necessarily mean those who you were born to. To me, family can mean those who help care for you and raise you, and who guide you and teach you important things.
And thinking on that, I can say that I have a very good group of friends who have also helped me grow and care for me as well. Can friends be considered a part of your family? I would like to think so. Heheh… then I suppose my family is actually quite large, isn’t it?
Q4: Tell me about a time you were involved in a personal conflict (not a physical fight). What would you do differently to resolve it?
Well... There was one time, after we had stopped Sephiroth, that I began feeling a void in my heart. It was a strange feeling... I ended up calling it "Gillian" as a means of remembering it. Every time I felt Gillian near me, it was usually when I felt lonely, or during times when I didn't feel like I belonged with humans or with other animals. I also worried a lot about my longevity. You see, my species is known to live for many years, much longer than most humans, and so I began to realize that there would come a day where I would outlive my friends. And not just once; I may outlive many generations of friends. It was a frightening thing to think of... But I ended up talking to my friend Vincent, who I ended up learning is immortal, and he was able to assuage some of my fears about my worries and loneliness. We agreed to meet at Midgar every year, so that I could tell him about my travels and experiences. I worry for him, but it was nice to know I would at least have one friend I could have in my life who understood the struggles we all went through.
I don't think I would do anything different to resolve that conflict. Perhaps talk to the rest of my friends about my feelings? But I'm not sure how well that would go... Well, I suppose it doesn't matter now. I was able to talk to one friend about it, at least.
Q5: Do you have any regrets? If so, what are the biggest ones? If not, what is something you wish you had gotten to do back home?
Well… I suppose I wish I would have been able to know my parents properly. And tell Grandfather all about the things I learned while I was travelling with my friends. I told him I would tell him stories about all the things I’d seen in my travels, and I never really got the chance to before he…
...
I really do miss him…
